Job Description - Breed Secretariat Team Lead

  • Lead and develop a small, capable team delivering high‑quality services

  • Maintain your own manageable EO portfolio in a true player-coach role

  • Improve systems, workflows, and operational consistency across breed societies

Lead Global Agricultural Innovation

The Agricultural Business Research Institute (ABRI) has been the engine behind genetic progress in the cattle industry for more than 50 years. Today, ABRI data supports over 70 breed societies and 66 million recorded animals worldwide. Now, ABRI is entering its most ambitious chapter: transforming from a research-focused institute into a commercially agile agritech leader. ABRI is seeking a capable and steady Breed Secretariat Team Lead to guide a small, high-performing service delivery team while managing a defined portfolio of Executive Officer (EO) clients. This is a true player–coach role, balancing hands-on EO responsibilities with structured team leadership.

The Opportunity

As the Team Lead, you will ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of EO services across multiple breed societies. You will provide direction, manage capacity, oversee performance, and act as the escalation point for both staff and clients. You will also play a key role in strengthening operational stability, improving processes, and building capability across the unit.

This role suits someone who thrives in a governance-driven environment, enjoys developing people, and brings disciplined organisation to a busy service function.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of five EO staff

  • Oversee service delivery quality, timeliness, and compliance

  • Maintain and improve SOPs, templates, and workflows

  • Manage a controlled EO portfolio, including governance support, member communications, and routine administration

  • Coordinate weekly planning, resource allocation, and leave coverage

  • Build strong relationships with breed societies and industry partners

  • Identify risks early and escalate appropriately

  • Support operational reporting, contract alignment, and process improvements

About You

You are an experienced service delivery professional who blends strong operational judgement with the ability to engage confidently and credibly with breed society boards, members, and industry stakeholders.
You bring a steady track record of delivering high‑quality services, supporting governance processes, and guiding teams to consistent, reliable performance.

Your background demonstrates:

  • Experience supervising small teams or leading service functions

  • Strong organisational and administrative capability

  • Clear, direct communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Proven ability to coach, delegate, and set boundaries

  • Sound judgement in prioritisation and escalation

  • Experience in membership-based or governance-driven organisations (desirable)

  • Familiarity with agricultural or breed society environments (advantageous)

Why ABRI?

  • Lead a respected service team with meaningful industry impact

  • Contribute to the stability and growth of a trusted agricultural organisation

  • Enjoy a supportive culture with opportunities to improve systems and processes

  • Work from Armidale or remotely, with a strong national and international client base
